Venous Doppler

What is a Venous Doppler?

A Venous Doppler is an ultrasound study of the veins in the upper or lower extremities of the limbs.

The Venous Doppler is able to demonstrate the blood flow in the leg & arm veins and looks for any clots which can be life threatening if they break loose and travel to the lungs causing Pulmonary Embolism. Any obstruction in the blood flow can also cause leg pain, tenderness or Edema.

Why do I need a Venous Doppler?

Your doctor will recommend a Venous Doppler if you have symptoms such as

  • Pain, heaviness or aching sensation in the arms and legs,
  • Swelling of an arm or leg.
